WAGNER HANDRAIL BRACKETS MEET NFPA 5000 BUILDING CODE

The Wagner Companies has announced the availability of handrail brackets that meet the handrail clearance requirements of the new NFPA 5000 building code. NFPA 5000 requires a 2-1/4" minimum clearance between the wall and handrail. ADAAG, ANSI A117.1, and the IBC presently only require a 1-1/2" minimum clearance.

In order to meet the NFPA bracket clearance requirement, a 1-1/2" diameter tube section may be used with a bracket that has a center-line projection of 3". Wagner has a wide selection of stamped, cast or machined brackets designed to meet this criteria in steel, aluminum, brass and stainless steel. Additionally, Wagner has components that may be used to assemble brackets that meet NFPA 5000 that may be used with larger handrail sections.

The NFPA 5000 building code has been adopted in the state of California and jurisdictions in Maine, Texas and Illinois. Fabricators, designers and specifiers should confirm with local authorities to determine what codes apply to their application.
