Every stairway floor opening should be guarded by a standard railing on all exposed sides except at the entrance of the stairway.

Every ladder way floor opening or platforms should be guarded by a standard railing on all exposed sides except the opening. The passage through the railing should either be a swinging gate or so offset that a person cannot walk directly into the opening. |

Machinery
Regardless of height, all open-sided floors, walkways, platforms, or runways above or adjacent to dangerous equipment, pickling or galvanizing tanks, degreasing units, and similar hazards should be guarded with a standard railing.
Rooftop/Platform Edges
All open-sided floors or platforms significantly above ground level should be guarded by a standard railing on all open sides except where there is an entrance to a ramp, stairway, or fixed ladder.
