Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get an estimate?

It is very difficult over the phone or by e-mail to give an accurate estimate of cost and time required to restore/refinish an item. We can usually give you a general cost and time line, but until we actually have the item in front of us, we can not give a precise estimate.

How long will it take?

The time to complete a job depends on many factors: existing backlog in the shop and the complexity of the particular job. Time of the year also plays a factor in the scheduling of work. Normally items that only need to be polished have a turn around time of 1 week. At the time we give you an estimate you will be told the approximate completion date.

If you have a special requirement please give us a call, as we can usually work around some time constraints.

Will polishing increase or decrease the value?

Generally when restoring an item back to its original condition the value of an item will remain the same or increase. We have on staff experts that will advise you as to the ideal course of action for your particular item. There are a few instances when we advise against refinishing. Certain items just are not worth refinishing, or they should remain in an untouched state. When these items enter our shop, we give our honest opinion of what should or shouldn’t be polished.

Is my job too small?

Please note that we do not limit our processes to materials and markets. Over the years we have had the opportunity to serve customers with one piece who walk in off the street as well as large companies with thousands of pieces.

We are building our customer relationships, and we are determined to please our new customers. We know how important it is to start off on the right foot as we grow our reputation for quality service.

Our mission has been to provide superior service in the metal polishing industry while consistently exceeding our customers quality and delivery expectations.  We have a strong commitment to continual quality improvement and investments in the newest technologies.

Superior quality, competitive prices, and rapid turnaround are our measures.

Capabilities

Mechanical polishing covers grinding, polishing and buffing - all processes for improving the surface conditions of a product for decorative or functional purposes. Mechanical polishing is a series of abrasive operations used to remove or smooth grinding lines, scratches, pits, mold marks, parting lines, tool marks, and surface defects that adversely affect the appearance or function of the part.

Grinding first, polishing second, and buffing third. In general, grinding is far more aggressive than polishing. Likewise, polishing is far more aggressive than buffing.

Polishing is used to improve the surface finish from the grinding step, buffing improves the surface finish form the polishing step.

We can polish virtually any metal, brass, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, steel and other alloys, including small and large parts. We ask that items to be polished are completely disassembled and as free as possible of dirt, grease and oil. We polish only items that have not been plated anodized or powder coated.  We can, however, polish the materials after any coatings have been stripped.

We also offer Ra. testing, this measures the surface roughness or texture of an item, using an instrument that scans the surface of the item and reports the Ra. (roughness average) in micro-inches or micro-meters.

Our talented staff and large array of equipment allow us to offer you a wide variety of finishes including -- but not limited to:

  • Grinding: is basic stock removal using aggressive abrasive operations.

  • Line Graining: is a directional scratch pattern using coated abrasives.

  • Brush Finishing: is a semi-directional pattern using coated or woven abrasives.

  • Buffing: is accomplished by working the substrate with sisal or cotton buffing wheels.

  • Color Buffing: is a final cleaning and brightening operation that uses soft cotton buffs.

  • I.D. finishing: refers to all mechanical polishing done with hand tools or bench top polishing.
